Examiner.com, which bills itself as the “insider source for everything local,” plans to launch a new Drupal-based Web site in the Spring, according to this article from AP. The focus of the article is Jim Davidson’s appointment as president of the news Web site which has a presence in 240 markets around the country. It will be interesting to see what Davidson and company do with Drupal, an open source platform for Web publishing. With more than 30,000 journalist contributors, it would seem like Examiner.com needs a tool that can by used by Web experts and newbies alike.
Drupal is currently billing itself, among other things, as “the open source platform making governments work better,” since it is now being used by whitehouse.gov. It is used by a wide variety of other newspapers and media sites as well, including the New York Observer, Ski Magazine, and Al-Akhbar. You can find out more about newspapers on Drupal at the “Newspapers on Drupal” page.
To check out Examiner.com, you can go to their site. Once you are there, you can “select your city” (in the middle of the top banner), and see if they are covering your backyard.
